I'm now headed for the 88,000 mile mark and the belt is still original and, believe it or not,it's been pretty QUIET.BUT!! What I've been doing, atleast once a month,or if I hear even the slightest inkling of a chirp, and have mentioned it in the past,is rub alittle candle wax [I stole it from the wife's collection, but don't tell her,SHHHHHHHHHHHH! ] LIGHTLY across the teeth of the belt starting right by the front of the chain [belt] guard,[I can cover about 8 inches at a time] moving the bike ahead a few feet, then rub alittle more wax, etc.,until I have done most of the belt.It takes about three minutes to do.Everyone was LAUGHING at me when I first mentioned it,but ya know what??? It's working. The wax acts kinda like a lubricant and allows the belt to move side to side when under different loads. In fact,I just gave it another treatment this morning right after washing it.[got caught in the rain last night,] And the best part is,it doesn't make any mess! |

Ya didnt tell me that part Dave!! and im tellin your wife this week! But I will say this, 7 yrs. into this bike and im still spending $$ and time on this rear wheel noise bullshit!!!! So no this is never going to end, Triumph will never admit to any flaw of any kind!! I have 2 other Triumphs sitting in my garage, 1 being a 2004 Daytona 955 and everyone!!!,everyone!!! who owns or owned 1 has had a charging system meltdown cause of crappy, to small a gauge wiring from stator to R/R. Now Triumph claimed it was in the 02 models only and they corrected the problem in later year models! BULLSHIT!!! There should have been a class action lawsuit cause The Daytona was not the only model with this issue at the time. Yes I know this is the Thunderbird 1600 forum but thats what your dealing with and I guarantee there is no plan to fix the issue cause the blinders are on!

(Re: SAK1600) | | Regarding the small gauge stator wiring, there is a shop, not far from where I live [about 9 miles] that does rewiring and or sells replacement stators for motorcycles "AND" for a reasonable price.I'll discuss that when I see ya this week.
Regarding the wax trick,[MY BAD]I forgot to mention it.So kick me in the balls when ya see me. BTW!!! Are the crayon marks I put on the belt, still there Bob????? Dave!!!
PS!! Motorcycles are not the only things on my mind cause I also service other vehicles and equipment with problems!!! All I can do is TRY!!!

I've had the rear wheel off three times and never any issues. I don't have any alignment tools, just eye ball it and count the threads on the adjusters. The belt runs just off the inside rear pulley. Now the 2010 Standard Bird I had was a different story, but a bit of industrial belt dressing on occasion did the trick for me. Life can be strange like that sometimes.

Are you talking about Ricks Motorsport Electric in Plaistow Dave? I have one of his statist in the bike now,2ND one as a matter of fact. I took care of that wiring issue a while ago.
Yeah the crayon marks are still on there, the belt is right where it was and has stayed there. I had heard about the wax trick before so I'm guessing it was from you a while back. A kick in the balls is a little extreme Dave, kick in the ass maybe
